  • - Lady Ross's Turaco -

Believe it or not, this stunning bird is considered a #pest across much of africa!
    🐦
Despite continuing to lose a lot of natural habitat due to human activities, this very regal looking and sounding bird from the #Musophagidae family sits happily in the IUCN "least concern" category. This could largely be down to their rather unfussy diet, being more than happy to help themselves to agricultural crops - hence earning their unfavorable reputation.
    🌱🐦
Interestingly they're the only birds to posses true blue and green colour pigments in their feathers (sadly not so visable in these pictures - but do google them to see for yourself). In all other birds these colours are produced by light reflecting from the #feathers structure.
    🐦🐦
As with most birds, they form monogomous pairs in breeding. Not quite so common however, is that the rearing of the young is sometimes shared by other members of their flock who they form strong social bonds with.
    ❤🐦
Their call sounds like "g'way" giving this #turaco the nickname "go away bird"! Rude!
    🎶🐦🎵
Who wishes they had "pests" this pretty where they lived?
