  • Hello world! Meet another Tempt Fate member! My name is Sarah (@sarahmckennadunne ) and I am recent Theatre Practice Masters graduate of UCD/GSA. I have experience as both an actor and director in amateur and professional settings, and have more recently have taken my hand to playwriting. I am currently working on developing a piece of original site specific theatre for 2019 following its debut for my MA showcase in Smock Alley of this year. I am delighted to be involved with Tempt Fate productions as it offers an opportunity to get original pieces off the page and onto the stage!

  • WHEN THE CHECK IN, DOESN'T GO TO PLAN 🙊

    I do frequent check ins with my clients to assess progress. The frequency of these depends on the clients goals and how far away from them they are. For a competitor close to show they may be on a bi-weekly basis, where as a recreational gym goer looking to bulk up may only need one once ever 6 weeks 😎✌

    As I coach, I can expect which check ins I am going to see a significant change at, and which ones I won't. However when a check in doesn't go to plan, it is important to look at a few variables 🤓☝️

    - Is the client following your plan? Rate them out of 10 on adherence.
    - Is the client going through a stressful time that might get them to hold water?
    - Is the client getting enough sleep and quality rest?
    - Does the client have an intolerance to something they are consuming?
    - Is the client over-training?

    When you have a system in place, you can learn more about the client and apply a strategy to keep them progressing. It is important to realise that no two people are the same, so it is vital to take notes about what works best for your client, and not a sample one from a study/textbook. Human experience is crucial 👌

    The longer I am working with a client, the better I will get to know their bodies. This is why clients who are with me for a long time, still continue to have savage progress. If dramatic results are what you are looking for, realize that this will not come quickly. The longer you put into your goals, the better these results will be, and the more manageable it will be to keep them 💪😋

    Here is a 4 week transformation of my client @ktob_ 👌

    Katie started working with me to improve her strength and endurance. Being an upcoming professional actor it is important for her to be strong and mobile, so that she can move around the stage better 🤸
    *
    Since starting with me (around 10 weeks ago), She has gone from never doing compound movements, to being able to deadlift 65kg, squat 60kg and bench 40kg, for reps comfortably. This is super impressive 🏋️
    *
    Katie saw such a benefit from training with me, that after a few sessions, She decided to increase her weekly Personal Training from two sessions to three sessions ✌️
    *
    The above transformation shows the results of a short diet that we started at the beginning of August. This was in order to reduce a bit of bodyfat for a character role. Katie wanted to tone up, to be able to fully embody her inner "festival hun" for her role as "Irish Girl" in @ruleofthreecollective "Free EU Roaming" 💃
    *
    The play is currently running in @smockalleytheatre until Thursday as part of @dublinfringefest . It's lot's of fun, and really makes you think about current and past cultural events 🤔 definitely recommend 😎

  • Let's talk about Exercise Adaptations 🤔

    Everyone is built differently. One person's muscle mechanics, are going to be completely different to anothers. Sometimes when performing a particular exercise, a person may feel it in the wrong places, not because the technique is wrong, more because their mechanics aren't suited to it 🤷🏻‍♀️
    *
    This video is of my client @ktob_ performing a dumbbell stiff leg. We found that She was feeling it all in her lower back when performing normal range of motion. This is because Katie is overly-flexible in her hamstrings, where a normal person would feel tension, She got nothing 🙃
    *
    As can be seen we fixed this by using a large deficit, and keeping the range short. Once we done this, the hamstrings started initiating the lift again 🤸
    *
    Muscle mechanics can make a real difference to whether or not you are getting the most out of an exercise. Don't overlook them 😎👌
