  • #FlashBackFriday ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By the 1960s, the first generation had passed and second-generation George and Raymond Rumiano were running the farming and cheese businesses.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Raymond focused on cheese and mostly served customers in San Francisco. His sons Baird and John worked in the plants but left for college and then on to what they thought were other careers.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But fate had other plans when the company’s cheesemaker fell ill, and Dad asked Baird to leave his job and return to the family business.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few years later, tragedy struck again when Raymond had a heart attack followed by an aggressive cancer. He passed away in 1978, leaving 24-year-old John and 28-year-old Baird to buy out the company.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The business was struggling, and when interest rates skyrocketed to 22%, things went from bad to worse. The bank called the note and prepared to padlock the plants. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But in another test of resilience, the brothers convinced a local bank, employees and a few key partners to work through the next several years.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Living literally on rice, beans and cheese and working 7 days a week, the brothers and their team began to turn the corner.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With gratitude and a keen reminder of these early difficult days, we salute our third generation!

  • Although dark, @modernlovebrooklyn Valentine’s Day price fixe menu was divine. It’s hard to choose the best but the oyster mushroom on the half shell and the choc/raspberry mousse need to be added to permanent menu! Thank you for making our v-day extra delicious! 💚
