  • Start of the Christmas journey.
We depart from the winter of Boston, transition through Miami, and travel through the night towards our destination - Santiago. As we fly over Chile, I experience the grandeur of the Andes for the first time. The view as the sun rises over to them is breathtaking - photos, videos, none do it justice. We’re greeted by the warmth of family, taken in in as if we’d never left. In between the constant conversations, the laughter, and continually consumption of homemade food, we went hiking. The desert has familiar essences of Utah, the only parallel that I can seem to draw from my own experiences, but it’s beyond that. The Chilean desert is unique, almost otherworldly. .

  • When your feeling stressed and anxious, you put on your favorite hat, spikes and steal a friend's dog to go for a long hike in the woods... #nature #hike #nh #hiker #getoutside #hike

  • On top of the world 🗻☁️ I often think about why we seek to climb things - trees, towers, social hierarchies, mountains. It’s like we have this intrinsic desire to be on top, to have dominion over our environment. And, particularly with mountains, why do we endure physical and mental pain to reach the summit? Why do we risk death, in some cases, to stand on a peak? I genuinely think there’s some evolutionary impulse behind this - our ancestors often encountered ‘god’ on top of mountains, after all - but maybe it’s just because sometimes when we get to the summit we get to experience a new perspective. We see our world differently. In this case, on top of Mount Taranaki, we got to look down on the clouds rather than up at them. I think humans are wired to seek peak experiences and it’s probably why a lot of us turn to drugs, sex and other vices. For me, it doesn’t get much better than standing on a summit surrounded by clouds and blue sky. I don’t know why I need this. I don’t really know why I climb. But I know that it’s where I feel most alive. Why do you climb? I’m genuinely interested to get other people’s take on this.
