  • You are never going to feel like it. - The 5 Second Rule
That’s when you have to push past your feeling’s and just do it.
Today I did feel like working out. But there are so many days when I would rather not. I can think of ten other things I’d rather do than work out - sleeping all day is definitely at the top of that list.
But because I listened to my feelings for so long and just worked out when I felt like, I got to the point I am at today (or was at when I got serious about making changes in my life again). Once you realize that how you feel about something totally effects your outcome, then you can work on changing that outcome (by addressing those feelings). Did I explain that adequately, @melrobbinslive ?

  • Who would’ve thought 6 weeks after this picture was taken that my thyroid would turn on me and cause my immune system to attack itself. That created a runaway train effect from blacking out, severe fatigue, daily headaches, uncontrollable sweating, rapid heartbeat, hair loss and complete and utter hopelessness 😔 You would think finally being diagnosed would begin a journey to recovery. Wrong! Imagine adding a 62lb weight gain, severe dry skin, consistent forgetfulness, low tolerance and then swinging from HyPERthyroidism to HyPOthyroidism. The journey that made me feel all alone and left behind. #thyroiddisease
I said all this because I want someone to know that they don’t have to walk this journey alone. I’ll support you as much as I possibly can, and more importantly I’ll pray for you which is more than anyone can offer. This journey is not for the faint at heart and I encourage you to keep going. One day at a time and one moment at a time! #warrior 🦋 #hyperthyroidism #hypothyroidism #hashimotosdisease #gravesdisease #thyroidcancer #thyroidproblems #pcos #throwbackthursday #allthingscovrd

  • **DO YOU REALLY NEED VITAMIN D FOR HYPOTHYROIDISM?**
    .
☀️Mmm mmm that face when (tfw) you get some vitamin some vitamin D, right?
    .
🏙Okay so let me start by saying this: if you live in places like Toronto, NY, Boston, Vancouver, chances are you’re likely vitamin D deficient. And yes, vitamin D is important for optimal health! But first and foremost get your vitamin D tested to see just how deficient you actually are.
    .
⚡️In practice we focus heavily on mineral balancing and here’s the thing about vitamin D: it lowers potassium and increases calcium - both of which slows thyroid function from a mineral perspective.
    .
🤷🏻‍♀️If you have hyperthyroidism, then that’s not a bad thing, but vitamin D needs to used carefully and dosed accordingly if you’re deficient rather than just taking 10,000IU just because you read somewhere that’s how much you should take!
    .
⭐️I’ll be talking a lot about mineral balancing and heavy metal toxicity during my free thyroid masterclass happening on Tuesday February 26 at 7pmEST / 4pmPST. Spots are filling up so grab your spot by clicking the link in my bio @sexyfoodtherapy

  • You guys see that blue butterfly? It represents the third and final chapter: Head & the Heart. The thyroid gland rests on the throat chakra, the blue chakra, and it’s shaped like a butterfly. The butterfly also represents transformation, blossoming out of a dark cocoon. The third chapter is where I open up about the emotional connection to a dysfunctioning thyroid ~ are you speaking your truth? Are you truly happy in your relationship? Are you truly satisfied at your job? This, to me, is the most powerful part of the book. Link to order your copy in bio 🦋

  • **THE VITAMIN B1 CONNECTION AND HYPOTHYROIDISM**
    .
💊Now let me be clear before we go any further - there is no magic bullet. Getting your health on track requires utilizing all tools of healing - especially the basics (food, SLEEP! movement, supplementation, etc.). But this is still a vitamin that needs to be spoken about.
    .
⭐️And pssst remember, if ur loving this info, make sure to sign up to my FREE thyroid masterclass which is happening Tuesday February 26 at 7pmEST / 4pmPST. Click the link in my bio @sexyfoodtherapy to grab your spot now!
    .
🔥Thiamin, aka B1 is needed to convert food into a form of fuel for the body, so obviously a deficiency in this B-vitamin will lead to fatigue. It can also lead to the development of hypothyroidism where fatigue is one of the many symptoms.
    .
👩🏻‍⚕️But did you know that low levels of B1 can also impede the liver's ability to detoxify estrogen too? If we have too much estrogen, that will block the conversion of T4 to t3, so that's just one more reason why B1 is so darn important!
    .
🙅🏻‍♀️Now there are many things that can create B1 deficiency including meds like Digoxin (sold under the brand name Lanoxin), diuretics, birth control and even excessive alcohol intake as well (limit yourself to no more than 4 servings weekly).
    .
😫Usually individuals with hypothyroidism that have B1 deficiency will have symptoms like: fatigue, depression, irritability and troubles digesting carbs
    .
🤷🏻‍♀️So how much of this water-soluble vitamin should you take? Take the form "benfotiamine" and consume 3 x 200mg capsules daily with food (otherwise if taken on an empty stomach, you may feel nauseous!)

  • Sometimes I don’t follow any particular methods for breakfast and just throw things my body is craving together and they turn out really satisfying.

    I made this with:
    1 tbsp chia seeds
    1 tbsp hemp seeds
    1 tbsp cacao nibs
    1 tbsp pepitas
    2 heaped tbsp rolled oats
    Some cinnamon

Put all ingredients in a bowl, add some plant milk and stir. Let sit for 10 mins for the chia seeds to soften and stir in a sliced banana. Or head over to my stories to see how it’s done 😁

  • The past 3 weeks have been tough.. probably one of the hardest things yet. After my body started disagreeing with my medication, my lips, hands and fingers started to swell, I had joint pain from my neck to my ankles, after 4 trips to the GP and 1 to the hospital I have now been put on new medication.... This is now followed up by more blood test next week and living with a pain and uncomfort I can't discribe. I work in child care as well as a nail technician, luckily I had a week's holiday because 3 weeks ago I couldn't move off my sofa, never mind pick up a child or even hold a nail file. Not only has it decided to fight my body physically but also mentally, my anxiety is thru the roof and I don't wanna go out, I'm scared I get an other reaction or fall asleep, and being round lots of people freaks me out right now. Going to the work itself feels like I've put in a 10 hour shift. My body is fighting against me, I don't know why, but I am 100% gonna fight all I can and get over this!! #gravesdisease #hyperthyroidism #overactivethyroid #iwilldoit #itsokaynottobeokay #startingmyjourney #itsnoteasy

  • **CAN WE TALK ABOUT TESTOSTERONE AND YOUR THYROID FOR A SECOND?**
    .
🔥When you hear testosterone some people may associate testosterone with libido (because frankly you need it to give you that added vroom vroom) but did you know you also need a healthy supply of it for adequate thyroid function?
    .
⭐️Psssst...have you signed up yet to my free thyroid masterclass? Go do so now by clicking the link in my bio @sexyfoodtherapy
    .
    😕LOW TESTOSTERONE + HYPOTHYROIDISM
Whether you are a male or female, low testosterone levels are often seen in cases hypothyroidism (don't guess this, test it with a functional practitioner like myself who can run those labs). Hypothyroidism can have a direct effect on the hypothalamus or pituitary gland (these are hormonal glands in your brain) which can thus interfere with testosterone production.
    .
    😫ELEVATED TESTOSTERONE + HYPERTHYROIDISM
Hyperthyroidism can increase testosterone and estradiol levels (your most potent estrogen that you have). Because of the increase in circulation from the metabolic effects of hyperthyroidism, more testosterone is delivered to the peripheral tissues, which is then aromatized (or in lament terms, "made into") estradiol.
    .
But these are generalizations and individualized cases need to be assessed. So see a qualified practitioner for more 😉
    .
🤷🏻‍♀️So what the heck can you do?
    .
👩🏽‍⚕️Well for starters - TEST don't GUESS. People I find are often so hesitant to test due to finances but it costs you WAY more in the long run to guess your way through this.

  • I had a baby and it changed me forever. Thing was, I really needed to be changed.

I had been living with an insidious heart-break that had poisoned me - like that juicy-red apple from the Witch in Snow White. I was asleep for eons, caught in a mighty fortress made of ice that I built with my bare hands and bitterness.

I have said that having my baby was like being broken apart into a million tiny pieces; a violent and shocking shattering of soul; a rite of passage out of my youth.

5 years ago I found myself ill with Graves’ Disease, a debilitating malaise brought on by hormonal disruptions from pregnancy and then, chronic not-even-a-bit-of-sleep with a baby for 3 years solid. My body just … gave out. At least, that’s what was happening in the physical realm.

Believing that my illness actually had spiritual roots in trauma and the past (oh that wretched hanger-on), I prayed for relief, and a teacher showed up. That began my studies in shamanism, and my blogging adventures.

So grateful that I wrote all that shit down. I wrote it down when I was first having symptoms and didn’t know what was up with me. I wrote it down when I first started working with spirits, getting haunted and studying shamanism. I wrote it down when I was losing my mind from chronic sleep deprivation. What a nutter I was! 😂 What a journey it’s been, these past 9 years.

In the White Bone, my lineage, we work intensively with the triskelion of the ancient Celtic people, my ancestors. Or, one could say the triskelion works intensively with us. I cannot help but clearly notice how my life has moved in these ever-deepening currents. The spiral goes in-and-down, back up-and-out and back in-and-down again. I think the key is to not feel at the mercy of the gods. Resistance is futile.

SpiritMAMA is where I go to talk about it all: being a mum, living with chronic illness, talking to spirits, hugging trees, learning to live with #HeartOpenWide
