  • Perfect post work, plant protein pick-me-up. .
    .
Many of us wonder how it could be possible to gain sufficient protein from a plant based diet and when excluding the usual staples of fish, chicken, red meat, milk, eggs and cheese, protein rich foods can seem something of a mystery. .
    .
Thankfully, there are countless sources of plant protein, meaning that meat-free days needn’t necessarily have a negative impact on nutritional status, as helpfully, plant derived proteins tend to be lower in fat and calories but higher in fibre and micronutrients. .
    .
Essential for muscle growth and repair as well as being the building locks for many body systems and processes, including plenty of protein as part of a balanced diet has been shown to help us to continue to feel full for longer after meals, keeping the hunger pangs at bay and us feeling at our very best. .
    .
Quinoa, mushrooms, soybeans and chickpeas, in combination, pack quite an impressive plant protein punch without necessarily needing to resort to adding protein powders or supplements to plant based meals. .
    .
    .
Excluding meat and animal products isn’t a choice that everyone would find easy to make, but it is worth being aware that upping the green goodies and considering plant alternatives, can go a long way towards improving general health whilst reducing our impact on the environment. .
    .
    Have the best Wednesday!

  • What's in your cooking pot this evening? I am cooking puy lentil soup with shiitake mushrooms, carrot, parsnip and celery.
When cooking soups according to the principles of Chinese medicine, ingredients are deliberately combined and prepared according to a person's constitution and current health concerns in order to promote better health.

The Chinese firmly believes that a person's health is affected by the kind of food he/she consumes. All food items contain properties that affect bodily functions. In fact, every ingredient in the Chinese kitchen is supposed to have different effects on the body and some ingredients have better known curative functions than others.
