Back when I was a young boy at the age of 5, I used to believe that seeds are like magical beings. They just come to life and become trees by just watering them. I got the idea from my grandfather. You see, my grandpa has a small garden in our backyard. Instead of flowers and vegetables, his younglings are fruit bearing trees; coffee trees, avocado trees, calamansi, guava trees, papaya and lemon. All these are planted in pots made from old cans and coca cola plastic bottles. The most common trees found in our backyard are coffee trees. Barako. Its a coffee tree suitable enough to grow here in the hills of Baguio.I remember we used to harvest them every year. It was a long process from harvesting, peeling the skin of every coffee bean, sun drying, roasting and finally grinding the coffee beans and putting them into these big jars. We got tons of supply of coffee for the whole year. Our own starbucks in our backyard. The best part was the scent of pure roasted coffee lingering all over the house after a day of roasting and grinding these coffee beans.
I was old enough when I realized that its not magic but a great effort of my grandpa taking care all these trees and doing those long process just to make coffee. Patience and Love for Nature are the best trait I learned from my grand dad.
I missed him. I missed him dearly. โ at Edmund Studio.
