Here’s what Weddle had to say regarding his uncertain future with the Ravens. “I want to finish out [my contract],” Weddle said, via the Baltimore Sun. “But obviously, decisions have to be made for the future of the team, the organization. They got to do what’s best for them, and I respect that. … [We’ll] see if there’s something to be worked out. If not, then I’ve had an unbelievable experience here and loved every second. So if it does happen, we both move on and then … we’ll see if I’ll play somewhere else or hang ’em up.” Weddle previously said that he was either going to return to the Ravens or retire, but it appears he’s now open to playing for another team.
Weddle, 34, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2007. He played nine seasons for the Chargers before signing a four-year, $26 million contract that included $13 million guaranteed with the Ravens for the 2016 season.
Weddle is entering the final year of his contract and stands to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2019 season.
According to SpotTrac.com, the Ravens would save $6.5M of cap space by releasing or trading Weddle, while absorbing $1.750M of dead money.
In 2018, Weddle started 16 games and recorded 68 tackles, one sack, and three pass defenses.
