- Lets talk about aged effect, dated effects, and the important distinction between them. My dear friend @_campblood_ and I were discussing how just because an effect is aged doesn't mean its bad. Somewhere it got into people's mind that older looking effects are inheritly bad. Dated effects are older effects that are bad, they just don't work anymore or just look really tacky. Here we have 2 examples of what I think are aged vs dated. First we have eight legged freaks, the effects are aged but still really work. Then there is Van Helsing....and while the effect might look cool here it certainly doesn't on screen. Same goes for the transformation scene in An American Werewolf in London, nobody can argue that these effects are bad. Yes they are aged but they are amazing. Then comes Mars Attacks!....these effects (while part of the point of this movie) are very bad. The CGI is laughable at best.
Now none of these movies are bad (I liked Van Helsing deal with it) but the effects certainly can be.
What are some movies you can think of that are older that either have aged but fire effects or dated and bad effects?

- Treatment of the bite of a recluse spider or Loxosceles reclusa. It’s one out of three spiders in North America whose bites still require medical attention. The immune system tries to stop the toxins from entering the body by cutting of the blood stream to the bite, which leads to necrotic tissue. Here, all of the dead tissue has been removed and the wounds are filled with drains to prevent fluid build-up.
The patient in the picture left the the bite untreated a little too long. Normally, it suffices to keep an eye on the bite and take anti-histamines soon after being bitten.
