Okay world! We're cheating a little today, but this is entertainment related & too good to pass. #ELLAYtuesdays is all about Los Angeles history; however, today in history - February 12, 1940 - "The Adventures of Superman" aired on the radio for the first time. Expanding this DC Comic hero to a larger audience. Seeing that we have a few avid comic readers on our team, we could not ignore this awesome historical day. To listen to the first radio show aired in NYC, visit - bit.ly/2DyrIxA. Happy Tuesday y'alls! .

  • Evening Gothamites! Fact number 7 in #HistoryoftheBatman ’s ‘80 Facts For 80 Years’ celebration is that in 1945, #Batman made his debut on the #radio serial series #TheAdventuresofSuperman on September 10, 1945. Although the Dynamic Duo of Batman and #Robin ( #DickGrayson ) were continually featured in the #WorldsFinest #Comics publication, for the first time across all media, #Superman (voiced by #BudCollyer ) and #theBatman (voiced by #MattCrowley ) team up together in the 14 part arc "Dr. Bly's Confidence Gang" in order to find #JimmyOlsen and Grayson! Batman’s mythos continues to develop in the year 1945, including learning the last name of their trusted butler Alfred for the first time - Beagle (Pennyworth would come decades later) - in the pages of #DetectiveComics 96! Tomorrow we will have fact number 8 for the year 1946 as part of #HOTB80 , so stay tuned for more History of the Batman! • Traveling through classic film: Charlie Chaplin built his movie studios in 1917. This is where he shot “The Kid”, “Gold Rush”, and “The Great Dictator”, a movie about an ordinary man who is mistaken for a Hitler-esque dictator (made in 1940 when Hitler was still very much in power making its release controversial). Chaplin designed the studio to look like a picturesque English village and at one time it included Chaplin’s house and swimming pool (before he moved to Beverly Hills). While Charlie owned it, he didn’t rent it out to others but later in its life, it was the home of “The Adventures of Superman” with Christopher Reeves and Red Skelton’s television show as well as a music production space. Fast forward to the year 2000 when the children of Jim Henson purchased it - the reason there is now a Kermit the Frog dressed as Chaplin’s character “The Tramp” on the roof. The house and pool were long ago demolished and are now a shopping center and parking lot respectively. #charliechaplin #kermitthefrog #muppets #jimhenson #labrea #chaplinstudios #jimhensonstudios #thetramp #thegreatdictator #thekid #goldrush #redskelton #christopherreeves #theadventuresofsuperman #onthestreetwheretheylived
