📍Between 1827 and 1829 Edinburgh was the home of the two most famous body snatchers William Burke and William Hare. During this time the need of corpses grew to meet the anatomy and physiognomy research taking place in Edinburgh at the time. In order to meet the demand, the black market of body snatchers had a roaring trade buying and selling stolen human bodies. This provided the perfect platform for friends Burke and Hare to sell their 16 victim corpses to Doctor Robert Knox at the University of Edinburgh, for use towards his anatomy lectures. However the crimes soon caught up with them in 1889, when Burke was executed following Hare’s confession against him. In New Calton burial ground still lies the watch tower built to protect against graverobbing.

- Spending my Friday night and all future weekends working on our NEW FLAT! 🌟 Definitely didn’t think this would happen so quickly because there were a lot of loose ends but somehow everything got sorted this week and we got our keys today! The flat is in an old tenement and hasn’t been renovated in over 20 years so is going to need a lot of work and love ❤️ Luckily we tore up some of the carpets and found amazing hard wood floors underneath. So yeah...I’m basically here to say sorry, but not actually sorry for the upcoming flat reno stories & posts 👏🔨
