  • Madera is an upscale fine dining restaurant located in Rosewood Sand Hill, Menlo Park. It has received a Michelin star in the past, but I’m not sure if they still have one at the moment. Nevertheless, it is still known to serve high quality, delicious food. It has been on my list of restaurants to try for a while now, and last December, I finally got the opportunity to check it off my list. When we arrived for our dinner reservation, we were seated almost immediately in a large, spacious room with classic decor and dim lighting, and after perusing through their menu, we finally decided upon what to order. First up, the Chicory Salad was delightful. The stracciatella cheese was so creamy and soft, the lettuce was fresh and crunchy, and the balsamic vinegar was actually more sweet than it was tangy. Next, the Grilled Octopus was delicious. It had a really nice char to it, and that, paired with the sauce added a really nice smokiness to the dish. The octopus itself was very tender, chewy, and flavorful. Next, the Pan Fried Gnocchi was by far the softest gnocchi I’ve ever had. It was so soft that it melted in my mouth. It was so savory, so creamy, and so absolutely delightful. Next up, the Fall Squash Agnolotti was kind of like mini fancy ravioli. The filling inside the soft and slightly chewy pasta dough was a sweet brown butter and butternut squash mixture. Biting into each little pocket was like biting into a gusher, but way better. The explosions of flavors didn’t only come from the agnolotti though. The pomegranate seeds sprinkled also added a slight crunch and a different type of sweet/sourness to the dish. The truffle on top really just added an extra level of flavor that was fantastic. This was truly a very special dish. Afterwards, we had the Seared Dayboat Scallops. The scallops were from Maine, according to the waitress, and they were so soft, with a wonderful savoriness and slight seafood taste that wasn’t overwhelming at all.
