  • #TemAndyLincoln and #TWDFamily , please read this post from our dear Lisa's mother Rebecca, about Lisa's brother Darryl. Help is greatly needed for this wonderful family who has done much for both this cause and for others. πŸ’œ

Darryl Williams, Lisa's younger brother, needs a living donor kidney transplant. He is on the kidney transplant list and must do at-home dialysis daily. We, his parents, are not suitable due to health issues. Lisa planned to be tested for him but her own health condition would not permit it. We've been told that the average wait on the transplant list is 5 years and that the dialysis patient's health deteriorates with each passing year. We have also been encouraged to tell Darryl's story and ask family and friends for help.

Many of you may have met Darryl at TWD Cons. He was Lisa's travel buddy from the very beginning, accompanying her, working the TAL booth and assisting her in every way possible. What you may not know is that upon her return from a Con in 2016, where Darryl did not accompany her, he suffered a heart attack, which he would not have survived without her prompt reaction. Likewise, he was there for her when she needed him throughout her struggles with cancer 2017-2018 when she made her transition. They were as bonded as siblings can be and she told me many times that Darryl was her best friend.

While I know Darryl would like nothing better than to live a normal life again, this is probably not an appeal he would make, feeling that he has no right to ask anyone to make such a sacrifice for him. So, as his mom, I take full responsibility for this appeal. So, please like and share this post. Perhaps it will touch the heart of someone who may have considered becoming a donor at some point in their life. There are many ways to become a kidney donor. For example, If not an exact match to your recipient, a Kidney Paired Exchange Program allows the recipient you wish to help to receive a compatible kidney when you donate a kidney that can be matched to a different patient. Thank you for reading this and please message me if you have questions.
